Buffalo Wild Wings Fundraiser for DHD

06/07/2015 By gfallar

Desert Hockey Development (DHD) is an all volunteer organization that strives to offer free hockey clinics and events to youth in Arizona. While we run a tight ship on a shoestring budget, we still have expenses we need to defray.

Buffalo Wild Wings - Glendale, AZDuring our Coyotes Street Hockey Summer League events on selected Saturdays during the summer of 2015, Buffalo Wild Wings in Westgate has generously offered DHD ten percent of the total check for food and drinks for any customers with the coupons provided on this page.

If you’re going to be in the area and plan to have a meal or some drinks, please consider supporting DHD by downloading and printing the coupons and patronizing Buffalo Wild Wings in Westgate (in Glendale, AZ) while you’re there.

Each coupon is valid for a specific date, we’ll update the site with the correct coupon for the next upcoming date as we march toward the final event of our hockey league season on August 8.

The dates our coupons are valid are June 20, July 11, July 25, and August 8. Please be aware each date has a different coupon, so if you hit Buffalo Wild Wings on more than one Saturday, you need a different coupon.

Click Here for the June 20 coupon

Coyotes Street Hockey Summer League

Coyotes Street Hockey Summer League

Week 1 Results Week 2 Results Week 3 Results

WE ARE FULL!

We’re adding a new element to this summer’s events in Gila River Arena. We have partnered with the Arizona Coyotes to offer some real competition for kids of all skill levels to have some fun playing against other teams.

The Arizona Coyotes Street Hockey Summer League is a reality!

NO EXPERIENCE OR EQUIPMENT NECESSARY

We have five dates scheduled at Gila River arena (click here for calendar). Last summer, we had kids returning for every clinic we ran. This summer, we’re hoping to have a similar experience.

We know returning kids don’t necessarily want to run through the same or similar drills and instructions once they have the basics down. What do they want to do?

KIDS WANT TO PLAY HOCKEY!

So, this summer they will be able to do exactly that. It’s all about keeping the FUN level up for the kids.

Arizona Coyotes Hockey DevelopmentThe Coyotes and DHD are running a FREE Summer Street Hockey League and hope to host at least six teams of kids with a minimum of eight kids per team. If there’s more children that want to play, we will accommodate as many as we can fit.

These teams will attend ALL FIVE of the scheduled events and play a full championship series with the finals to be held at the final event on August 8.

Every child that participates in the entire series on a team will go home with a street hockey stick and a hockey card with their own picture on it after the championship games are finished on August 8.

Street Hockey Tournament Format

Each team will play at least two games during each event, kids won’t be sitting around and getting bored.

The Coyotes Hockey Development Team and DHD will be coaching all of the teams and we hear there may be special guest coaches.

Fry’s, Papa Johns, and Mix 1 are all graciously providing some food, some drinks, and some cool stguff for everybody.

Everybody that participates in the series will go home with the stick and card, AND some other cool hockey goodies throughout the summer.

There might even be some special guest coaches.

We understand it’s a big commitment for families to schedule five events in a busy summer with vacations and other things that compete for hockey time. We hope that we’ve come up with a schedule that works well for most people. We avoided holiday weekends.

The dates are (all Saturdays):
June 6 and 20, July 11 and 25, August 8.

Kids Hockey Clinics at Gila River Arena

04/25/2015 By gfallar

DHD and Coyotes team up for FREE ball hockey at Gila River Arena

Desert Hockey Development was happy to have FREE events in the arena where the Coyotes play last year and we’re honored to have been invited back this summer to do it again.

Coyotes-Hockey-DevelopmentWe have five events scheduled at Gila River Arena this summer. They are all on Saturdays beginning June 6. Sign up for our mailing list to be notified of changes and upcoming events.

Tykes_instruction

Kids four to fourteen are encouraged to attend. We’ll be playing ball hockey exactly where the Arizona Coyotes play, it’s a real thrill. No equipment or prior experience is necessary.

Kids should wear sneakers and be prepared for physical activity. We’ll make sure they stay hydrated.

Our coaches are the best, they will split the kids up into logical groups based on age, size, and prior experience. Boredom is not something we like, so all the kids will be busy and having fun doing different things. So, if you have somebody in your family that’s a hockey wizard or has never played hockey, bring him or her along.
Gila River Arena seating map

We stress safety and sportsmanship, developing skills and techniques is secondary. We always finish up with a scrimmage where EVERYBODY gets to play.

We have a limit of eighty three (83) kids per clinic. Inclusion in the hockey activities is on a first-come first-served basis, so we recommend pre-registration (using the form below) and arrival at least 1/2 hour before the gates open.

We meet at Gate 3 on the north side of the building (facing Westgate “Fountain Park”). The doors usually remain locked until just before the event begins.

If your children are interested in playing on a team (we will match skill levels) for all five event dates, we have the Coyotes Summer Ball Hockey League on the same days just for you! Check it out!

We hope to see you there!

Chalk Art Festival

04/08/2015 By gfallar

There will probably be a lot of kids around to hone their art skills with some excellent chalk drawings, so we’ll be there to offer them the opportunity to get some exercise by playing some ball hockey with us.

The Southern Arizona Arts & Cultural Alliance (SAACA) is partnering with Vestar to produce the second annual Chalk Art Festival in three venues on Saturday, April 18, 2015.

Desert Ridge Marketplace, Tempe Marketplace, and Westgate Entertainment District are simultaneously inviting the public to watch professional artists create 8 foot murals or make their own chalk addition.

WestGateMap
Westgate will have eight professional artists working on their murals throughout the Entertainment District. Kids are invited to the “KidZone” where they’ll be able to produce their own artwork and, if they’re so inclined, take a stroll over to see what hockey is all about and get some exercise

Also of interest is the announcement of the results of the 2015 NHL Draft Lottery, where the drafting position of the Arizona Coyotes will be announced in this very important draft year. We will all be watching!

Thanks to the Arizona Coyotes Youth Hockey Development people, Desert Hockey Development will have a ball hockey rink set up at the Westgate venue, somewhere on the plaza near Gila River Arena. We will have equipment and adult direction for as many kids as can fit in the plaza that want to have some fun playing ball hockey.

Play for awhile or play all day, it’s up to you!

Hope to see you there!

Playground – Prep Day 1

12/06/2014 By gfallar

Desert Hockey Development’s (DHD) usual “home” is Bonsall Park North in Glendale. Monday, December 8, the City of Glendale and the Arizona Coyotes Foundation will be building a playground in the park in partnership with KaBOOM! And they will be doing so in in ONE day!

Arizona Coyotes FoundationKaBOOM! is a national non-profit group dedicated to ensuring that all kids get a childhood filled with the balanced and active play needed to thrive. One of the ways they do that is by designing and building playgrounds in cooperation with local groups.

YOU are invited to participate, and it sounds like it will be fun!

The preparation for the December 8 build day has been completed on Friday, December 5 and Saturday, December 6.

The City of Glendale people really did a great job in Bonsall Park, the pictures don’t do justice to the quality of the work they completed.

On Monday, a couple hundred volunteers from the Arizona Coyotes organization and the City of Glendale, along with a few Desert Hockey Development people, will descend on Bonsall Park to build a great playground.

Here’s some pictures from the first prep day.

Thank You, Coyotes!

08/17/2014 By gfallar

HockeyTykesJGlennDemetrius_StickworkWe had our fifth and last “Summer at Jobing.com” FREE Kids Hockey Clinic yesterday, August 16, 2014 with fifty six kids in attendance.

The Coyotes, and the NHL as a whole, are making a strong effort to bolster the growth of hockey through the grass roots. They’re going back to basics and making sure kids have the opportunity to get an introduction to hockey regardless of their background or economic condition.

We’ve benefitted greatly from this initiative and from the commitment of the new Coyotes ownership group. Their generosity and the professionalism of the Community Relations people and the Arizona Coyotes Hockey Development Program have helped us introduce hockey to HUNDREDS of kids aged between 4 and 14 through our ball hockey clinics.

Many of those kids held sticks for the first time and having a chance to play and learn in a REAL NHL HOCKEY ARENA beneath a real scoreboard was a great experience many of us will remember for the rest of our lives.

So, and this won’t be the last time we say this…

THANKS, COYOTES!

Coyotes Team Signed Jersey

06/18/2014 By gfallar

The jersey was won by Kate and Ryan! Because of a scheduling conflict at Jobing.com Arena, we moved the raffle up one week and picked the winning ticket during our final Summer At Jobing.com Kids Clinic. Kate and Ryan are both Coyotes fans, although Ryan’s “first team” is the Bruins. They drive up from Tucson to Coyotes home games, so the jersey has a good home with some good fans.

THANKS AGAIN to the Coyotes for donating this team signed jersey to Desert Hockey Development to support our projects. We can say that, without the Coyotes, we would be struggling to get this off the ground.

The Coyotes have generously offered us a team signed jersey (among MANY other things) for us to use in our fundraising efforts.

Coyotes Signed Team Jersey - 2013-2014
Coyotes Signed Team Jersey

We’re going to try something different. We will be raffling this jersey over the summer to celebrate our “Summer At Jobing.com” kids FREE hockey clinics. We’ll randomly select the winning ticket at the end of our final clinic on August 23.

We’ll be selling raffle tickets for $5 each or five for $20 at every clinic event starting Saturday, June 21. There’s no obligation for anybody to buy anything, if we only sell one raffle ticket that’s the winning raffle ticket and somebody will get an authentic Coyotes sweater for five beans.

This is a brand new authentic home jersey, the LAST year with the “PHX” shoulder patch, size large.

This is a rare (perhaps the only one in the world!) DOUBLE KLINKHAMMER jerseys, coveted worldwide by serious collectors. And… it can be YOURS!

There is a Certificate of Authenticity. Even if YOU believe us when we say it’s the real deal, maybe your friends won’t.

I’m Not Coming To The Clinics!

We won’t leave out the people that aren’t coming to any of our FREE clinics at Jobing.com Arena. Click here or on the image of the jersey to the right to get yourself some tickets.

Here’s the thing, we will NOT be delivering your tickets to you, we’re going to write your name on the back and keep them at DHD International Corporate Headquarters under lock and key. In other words, you’ll need to trust us. If that doesn’t work for you, then please don’t click the link to buy raffle tickets.

Coyotes Offer Summer Home For DHD

05/05/2014 By gfallar

DHD and the Coyotes with FREE Ball Hockey Clinics at Jobing.com Arena - Summer, 2014
Coyotes-Hockey-DevelopmentSummers in Arizona are hot and people living here are used to the heat. Our regular host rink in Bonsall Park in Glendale is outdoors and uncovered. Physical exercise on a concrete surface in summer temperatures is not recommended, so we have been in search of a covered or indoor venue.

We hit the jackpot.

Click here for the complete summer schedule.

We had FUN on June 21, JOIN US!

Coyotes Come Through

The Coyotes have been generous with their support of DHD from the first day we began operations. They provided ball hockey equipment for FREE and sent their Development Team to get our first clinic off the ground in January. We watched closely and have incorporated a lot of their techniques in our hockey clinics.

The Coyotes have jumped in, AGAIN, with another generous offer.

Desert Hockey Development and the Coyotes Hockey Development Program will be holding FREE hockey clinics in Jobing.com Arena this summer, kicking it off on Saturday, June 21 at 2 pm.

Coyotes Youth Hockey and Fan Development Manager (and all around great guy) Matt Shott had this to say:

“The Coyotes have loved what Desert Hockey Development has done to promote the growth of our sport. With the summer months making it difficult to do any sort of physical activity outside, we felt that in order to keep the momentum and interest that DHD has generated, the Coyotes needed to step up and help find them a summer home.

By moving the clinics to Jobing.com Arena, we are allowing kids not only an opportunity to continue improving their skills, but also a chance to play where their favorite Coyotes players play.”

Wow, huh?

Our Chairman, Darrin Lacey, added:

“We are pleased and excited to announce our summer schedule. With the support and partnership of the Arizona Coyotes we will be able to utilize an indoor venue that will allow us to continue our mission to Grow The Game of hockey in Arizona throughout the hot summer months.”

Grow The Game

The commitment of the Coyotes to growing the game of hockey in Arizona is complete. The Coyotes expansion of hockey programs brought to local schools, GIFTS of hockey equipment to schools, sponsorship of FREE ice hockey introduction programs, and countless other efforts aimed at building youth hockey in our state affirm the long term commitment of the team to our community.

We’re humbled to be a small part of those efforts.

Click here for the complete summer schedule.

Registration will be required for these clinics, a registration form will be provided on the event schedule page.

We’re looking forward to seeing you at the arena!
