We had the opportunity to run a street hockey demonstration for the Sunset Vista Elementary School’s “Bobcat Bash” on Saturday, March 29 at the Fountain Place apartment complex in Peoria.
Peoria isn’t far from our “home base” in Glendale, but this event marked Desert Hockey Development’s first foray outside Glendale with our hockey program. Progress!
The Bobcat Bash is an annual school festival. We were invited to come and run a hockey demonstration during the festivities which ran from 10 am to 1 pm. We honestly didn’t know what to expect, didn’t know how many kids we’d see or how the location would work for us.
It was great. We had a net set up in a shady spot and a bunch of kids that wanted to play some hockey.
We were busy the entire time.
We had kids playing goalie, kids (and even some adults) shooting and stick handling all over the parking lot we used for a rink. We hope to see some of them at a FREE Kids Hockey Clinic in Glendale some time soon.
Special thanks to Gordon Cowie for donating what appears to be a brand new, collapsible metal framed hockey goal. Without that net, we wouldn’t have had an event that was nearly as successful.
